FYMS * "Upstate Blues" + Pygmalion Fest
Remember when I wrote about Into It. Over It (IIOI) back in March?
Well, these guys are getting around. Good news is that IIOI will be playing at The Grove stage at Lollapalooza on Friday, 1-145pm. Not a bad way to ease into the loong, Lolla weekend, if you ask me. Check them out and support the local Chicago music scene at the same time
Evan Weiss' "acoustic" version of "Upstate Blues", appropriately played in Upstate NY.
ALSO - I wanted to make a quick case for why you should go to Pygmalion Festival (Sept 25-28) in Urbana-Champaign. If I could, I would..but I can't. Regardless, can you just please appreciate these FYMS connections with me for a minute?
IIOI, American Football, Owen, and T/T/T all share band members in one way or another (Evan Weiss, Mike Kinsella). IIOI and T/T/T are labelmates (Topshelf Records) with A Great Big Pile of Leaves and You Blew It! (latest album produced by Evan Weiss) who is currently touring with The So So Glos (also playing at Lolla) and The Front Bottoms. TFB are close friends with Kevin Devine. Who is also good friends with Evan Weiss. American Football is from Urbana-Champaign, same as The 92s (read this recap of how much I love The 92s now). Both of those bands are playing at Pygmalion Fest. Along with IIOI, Owen, and A Great Big Pile of Leaves (who opened for IIOI in March at Bottom Lounge). PHEW. Ok, got it? Should I draw a picture?..
Anyway, I guess that's what happens when a lot of great bands are on the same label.
Sorry for getting carried away. Long story short ::
1. IIOI is playing at Lollapalooza so get excited.
2. Pygmalion Fest has some awesome bands in the lineup - def check out all of the above!
3. Topshelf Records has the rock-emo-punk revival scene under control, as far as I'm concerned. At least here in the good ol' Midwest ;-)
(BTW - Don't even get me started on how excited I was when I found out that Shakey Graves and Reignwolf are friends..yeah, I'm cool.)
